Frequently Asked Questions About Birth Photography in Augusta, GA
Are you considering birth photography, but have some questions?
Don't worry, I'm here to help!
If you're a new parent, you're probably overwhelmed with all the decisions you need to make.
Birth photography doesn't have to be one of them.
Welcoming a baby into the world is one of the most transformative and beautiful moments of your life. As a birth photographer based in Augusta, GA, I know you may have questions before booking a session. Let’s go over some of the most common FAQs I receive so you can feel confident and excited about documenting your birth story!
Why Hire a Birth Photographer?
Birth is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The emotions, the raw beauty, the incredible strength—it all deserves to be remembered and cherished for years to come. Hiring a professional birth photographer means you and your support person can focus entirely on the moment, being fully present without the worry of capturing it yourselves. My job is to document every beautiful detail—the tearful joy, the tender touches, the strength it takes to bring your baby into the world. These images will allow you to look back and relive the love, strength, and joy that surrounded your baby’s arrival, preserving a story that will be treasured by you and your family for generations.
Isn't Birth a Bit Graphic?
Birth is AMAZING!
It is beautiful and powerful! Every birth story is unique, and I tailor my approach to your comfort level. We’ll discuss your preferences during our consultation—whether you want detailed crowning shots, an emotional side angle of baby being placed on your chest, or a more modest perspective from up by your head, I will honor your wishes.
When Will You Arrive?
I typically arrive when you’re in active labor (around 5-6 cm dilation). If you have a history of fast labors, I’ll come sooner to ensure I don’t miss those important moments.
What If I Go Into Labor in the Middle of the Night?
I am on call 24/7 near your due date, so no matter the time—day or night—I will be ready to head your way as soon as you notify me that you are in active labor. Most women tend to go into labor in the quiet hours of the night, when their mind takes a rest from the stress of work, kids, and daily life. Knowing this, I stay prepared and ready to capture your birth story whenever the moment arrives.
How Long Do You Stay After Birth?
I stay for 1-3 hours after birth to capture all the tiny, precious details—baby’s first moments, weight and measurements, bonding with parents, and all the love in the room.
What If I Have a C-Section?
Most hospitals only allow one support person in the operating room, and photographers are often not permitted. However, exceptions can sometimes be made by the anesthesiologist or doctor. If I am not allowed in, I will capture baby’s first moments in the nursery and be waiting for you in recovery, ensuring that no detail is missed. From those first cuddles to the tiny fingers grasping yours, I’ll be there to document these irreplaceable moments.
For scheduled C-sections, I offer to meet you at the hospital early to document your pre-op moments, including the anticipation and excitement as you prepare to meet your little one. I will capture those last belly moments before birth, the support and love of your partner or family, and any details that make your journey unique. After the birth, I stay to document those precious first hours in your recovery room, including skin-to-skin bonding, breastfeeding if you choose, and the overwhelming emotions of meeting your baby for the first time.
If you talk to your doctor and they are okay with me joining you in the OR, I would be thrilled to capture those moments for you!

How Many Images Will I Receive and When Will I Get Them?
You can expect to receive 100+ professionally edited images that beautifully tell the story of your baby’s arrival within 2 weeks of your baby’s birth. Additionally, I will deliver a sneak peek within 48 hours so you can have a few cherished moments to share with loved ones while you wait for the full gallery.
What If I Don’t Want My Images Used Online?
I completely respect your privacy! If you prefer not to have your images shared, that’s absolutely fine, and I will honor that without question. Your birth story is deeply personal, and I want you to feel comfortable with every aspect of the photography process.
Will You Use Flash Photography?
I primarily use available light to keep the environment as natural and peaceful as possible. However, in low-light situations, I do like to use a flash to enhance the quality of your images, ensuring clarity and detail. If at any point the flash feels bothersome to you during labor, I will immediately adjust or stop using it to maintain your comfort and birth experience.
Can I Make Payments?
Yes! A 50% retainer secures your due date, and you can make payments leading up to 38 weeks. I understand that birth photography is an investment, and I want to make it as accessible as possible. You can choose to pay in smaller installments over time, and I’m happy to work with you to create a payment plan that fits your budget.
What If You Miss My Birth?
Birth is unpredictable! To minimize the risk, I take a limited number of births each month and work with a backup photographer in case of emergencies. If I still miss your birth due to a rapid delivery, I will begin capturing as soon as I arrive and offer a Fresh 48 or Lifestyle Newborn session to document those early moments.
What If I Change My Mind About Birth Photography?
If you decide to cancel, your retainer is non-refundable as it holds your due date on my calendar. However, it can be applied to a Fresh 48 or Newborn session, so you still have the opportunity to document those early memories.
Why Is Birth Photography Expensive?
Birth photography is an investment in preserving one of life’s most unforgettable experiences. Unlike other types of photography, I am on call 24/7 leading up to your birth, available at any hour, and often spend long hours documenting the labor and delivery. The unpredictable nature of birth means that I must be flexible and prepared at all times, sometimes arriving in the middle of the night or staying for extended periods to capture every moment. After your birth, I carefully edit each image to ensure they tell a meaningful and beautiful story. This dedication to storytelling ensures that you have a timeless collection of images that authentically reflect the magic, strength, love, and emotion present during your baby’s arrival.
